Race Prep Checklist
Below is a simple checklist with all the essential steps that we follow when using RaceHUB during races. Follow these and you’re good to go!
Days leading up to race:
- Update RaceHUB and RaceTIME to the latest versions through the App Store.
- Activate any SIM cards and check there is enough data the day before the race. Sometimes they can take several hours to activate.
- If data usage is a concern, you can turn off mobile data for apps on the iPhone running RaceTIME. Go to Settings > Mobile and turn off all apps except RaceTIME. Ensure that iCloud Drive is on (located below the list of apps).
- Optional: If you have been testing RaceHUB before the race and recorded some laps/pits, you may wish to reset all data for the team before the race. Note this will remove any pre-made rosters.
- In RaceTIME, use the scroll wheel menu to choose which trike’s data you wish to reset and then scroll down to the bottom of the settings page to click the red ‘Reset all data’ button. It can take several minutes to sync across all platforms and sometimes you need to force quit the RaceHUB (if on iPhone) or click the minus and plus button if on iPad/MacBook.
- Before the race, it can be helpful to add a rider roster with estimated riding durations. The riding times will update based on when the trike pits so don’t worry if the time of day is incorrect before the race as it will automatically adjust when you pit.
- Make sure you charge all your devices and power banks so you start the race at 100%.
- Download and print the login poster for riders, parents and other team spectators by clicking the image below.
Race day setup and checks:
RaceTIME setup:
- Login to RaceTIME (the app in the trikes) with your Team Manager’s account and select the team each phone will be running.
- Decide where you want laps to be recorded from (most teams choose opposite their pits but some wish to use the official race finish line (located behind the grid, I believe).
- Stand in the centre of the track where you want laps to be recorded from and press ‘Set Start Line’ for each of your team’s phones. (Make sure you have selected the correct trike name using the scroll wheel in RaceTIME.)
- After setting the start line for each of your teams, stand in your pits where the rider change would occur and press ‘Set Pit Location‘ for each of your team’s phones.
- Click ‘Main’ on the bottom left of RaceTIME to return to the main page.
- Install unlocked phone in trike and connect to a power bank.
Note: if the iPhone running RaceTIME is closed or goes flat, the start and pit locations are saved. You do not need to reprogram them.
Checks:
- On RaceTIME, make sure the speed says a number and not ‘…’.
- If it says ‘…’, go to your iPhone’s settings app > Privacy > Location Services > RaceTIME and set it to ‘While Using the App’ with ‘Precise Location’ enabled.
- On RaceHUB, make sure you can see each trike on the map and each trike’s speed says a number and not ‘…’.
- If it says ‘…’, check that both devices are connected to the internet and that you have followed the RaceTIME procedure correctly.
- On RaceHUB, send a message to each team and make sure it appears on the phone running RaceTIME in the trike.
- If you are unable to send the message, make sure you are logged in with the Team Manager’s account.
- On RaceTIME, send an audio message and make sure it appears in RaceHUB.
- If you are unable to send the message (i.e. the microphone is greyed out), go to your iPhone’s settings app > Privacy > Microphone and make sure it is turned ‘on’ for RaceTIME.
- If you are unable to receive the message, make sure you are logged in with the Team Manager’s account.
- If you pass all these steps, all systems are go!
- If any issues persist, contact us directly using the phone number in our email signature.
How to start a race:
- To start a race, ensure you are logged into both the team and Team Manager’s accounts in RaceHUB on an iPad or Mac.
- Navigate to the Settings page using the menu bar on the left, and click ‘Start Race‘ when the race begins. This will reset any previous laps, time in bike (TIB) and begin your roster.
During a race:
- Keep an eye on the battery percentage for each of your trikes. If a down arrow appears next to the battery percentage on RaceHUB the iPhone is no longer charging.
- Check that the power bank is still connected and consider changing it at the next pit stop.
- If any issues persist, contact us directly using the phone number in our email signature.
- If you or any of your riders have any feedback or suggestions, please let us know after the race!
